‘How much for this jacket?’ The young lady in yellow kurti
aged about 25 years asked the vendor at the roadside of Noida’s sunehri
market.‘Just Rs. 700 mam.’
‘What nonsense?Last week same I took in 200.’ The vendor
replied,”Sorry mam! 350 is the last price.” The lady said,”I will not give more
than 250.” “No mam 300 is the final offer.” “Okay! Take 280 and pack it.”
“Alright mam.” He said.
Sunehri market is located at atta outside sector 18 metro station
opposite of GIP mall. There are few custom seized goods shops which attract lots
of customers. Here one could get items like jeans, shirts, shoes, woolen wear, belts
etc. There is no scope for bargaining in these shops. The rates are fixed.
There are other shops along the road for footwears, clothes, dry
fruits, book shops, juice corners and restaurants. The footpath connecting the
metro station to sab mall has too much rush due to people standing at stalls of
garments like lowers, ladies suits, undergarments, socks, sleepers, belts and other
wears.People generally bargain for these items. The path is very narrow and the
crowd usually big enough to block it.
There is mehandi stall which is a mode of attraction for most of
the ladies.A few ladies could be seen putting mehandi on their palm sitting and
blocking the footpath.
The other side ,i.e,the path going towards Vinayak hospital
comprises of stalls having gadgets, watches, wallets, goggles and fast food
corners. In the interior markets there are cheap restaurants, photo
studios,jewellery and bangle shops.
Locals consider this place as mini chandni chowk as it’s cheap
market of New Delhi’s suburb. Most people who visit here are
employees of different companies of IT sector, media houses, call
centres, consultancies and students. So a large number of people from lower
middle class are targeted by this market.
From morning to evening, this market remains crowded most of the
time. There is a lot of competition among the vendors. So there is much
bargaining on the roadside items. So for the people of Noida, sunehri market is
good substitute for palika bazaar or gaffar market .
